Ciara Myburgh reckons she became a true convert to authentic and Sustainable Travel while working as a Vagabond tour guide for three years. But we suspect her sustainable roots stretch way back to a childhood spent in the sticks with no heating and sporadic running water! The guide phase in her life – and there have been many phases – saw her fall even more hopelessly in love with Ireland as she led small tours and got up close and personal with bogglingly beautiful scenery, inspiring local people and communities, and soaking up our legendary history and culture. But Ciara’s total immersion in the ‘real’ Ireland doesn’t end there.
She was also a member of Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team for five years, drove tractors, milked cows (and got poo’d on by them), and ran a hostel in the wild west – of Wicklow that is. This woman of endless talents also holds a degree in film production and is qualified outdoor instructor too. That’s right; she spent several years scaling walls and paddling rivers (sometimes with white knuckles and a grimace!). With all that experience, we know that both the clients and staff at Sustainable Travel Ireland are in capable hands on this topsy-turvy journey towards sustainability. Ciara has also completed the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Sustainable (GSTC) Tourism Training Program course.
